Morocco Photo Gallery
This gallery is a compilation of my favourite pictures during my travels in Morocco in 2018 and 2019.
The first time I traveled to Morocco was in November 2018. I wasn’t super enthusiastic about this trip as I imagined it to be an arid and conservative place. I only decided to visit this North African country as my travel partner back then had previously lived there for almost one year and he really wanted to show me why this country had stolen his heart. I’m very glad he did…
I initially planned to spend two weeks in Morocco. Those two weeks became five months… We hitchhiked and traveled by public transport all around the country, from the Mediterranean coast to the Atlantic Ocean, across the mountains of the High Atlas to the Sahara desert.
We visited colorful mountain villages, modern cities, historical medinas (old city centers), and Berber settlements. We saw mud-brick fortresses, lush palm groves, stunning waterfalls. exotic beaches, snowy mountain peaks, and arid deserts. I was stunned to find such diversity in the culture and landscapes in Morocco!
The people we met were very friendly, warm and hospitable. They made us feel so welcome! But I have to be honest here. We were able to connect so well with the locals as my travel partner spoke Moroccan Arabic. I’d probably have had a completely different experience if I’d been traveling by myself. Being able to communicate with the local people also helped me tremendously with taking their portraits. The Moroccan people aren’t a big fan of photographers…
My Morocco pictures are taken with my Panasonic Lumix DC-G90 mirrorless camera and the Panasonic Lumix DC-GX9 . For the majority of the street photography and landscape photos, I used the Panasonic Lumix G Vario 14-140mm f/3.5-5.6 lens. This all-around zoom lens is weather-sealed, which is very useful while taking photos in the desert! I used the Leica DG Summilux 25mm/f1.4 lens for most of my portraits.
