Kyrgyzstan Photo Gallery

This gallery is a compilation of the pictures I took during my travels in Kyrgyzstan in 2017, 2018, and 2019. This small country in Central Asia really stole my heart and it’s one of my favorite destinations in the world.

I didn’t have Kyrgyzstan on my itinerary while I was hitchhiking across Central Asia in 2017. I had barely even heard of this small country when my travel companions, who were giving me a ride across Kazakhstan, suggested to make a small detour and go on a 5-day road trip across Kyrgyzstan.

It was love at first sight! The landscapes and nature of Kyrgyzstan are so wild, varied and downright beautiful! From endless valleys surrounded by snow-capped mountains and crystal-clear mountain lakes to lush forests and red canyons, you’ll see it all there!

As we had arrived in September, we were lucky to come across some yurt camps. A big majority of the Kyrgyz people are shepherds and they have a semi-nomadic lifestyle. During summer they live in small yurt camps, often near a river or alpine lake, in the mountain pastures where they tend to their cattle and sheep. In winter they return to their settlements and villages in the valleys as it’s too cold to stay in the mountains. The nomadic culture is still very present in Kyrgyzstan!

Kyrgyzstan’s beautiful nature and culture intrigued me so that I wanted to stay longer. The 5-day road trip turned into me living there for nearly one full year! You can read more about my travels in Kyrgyzstan on my travel blog.

Most of my Kyrgyzstan pictures are taken with my Panasonic Lumix DC-G90 mirrorless camera. This camera is compact, light-weight, and weather-sealed, perfect for multiple-day hikes in the mountains! I’ve mainly used the camera in combination with the Panasonic Lumix G Vario 14-140mm f/3.5-5.6 lens.
